Introduction
We are living in revolutionary times.
What we took for granted in our jobs, careers, livelihoods, society, is being turned upside-down. Some panic, some fear, some apprehension as we try to hold on to "the way things were"...
What a waste of potential, creativity and energy... a squandering of the leadership capital we so desperately need to deal with all of the challenges we face?
What if we could inspire people to dream big and create a prosperous livelihood living turning their ideas into powerful impact?
The economy is the “ecosystem” that sustains our ability to dream and to do. “Business” is the means through which we transform our dreams and ideas into tangible results. We are at a revolutionary turning point in our beliefs about how business works…
The Old Economy was based on a quest for control, a scarcity mentality and a drive to win at all costs. But is this paradigm valid any more?
The New Economy is about how big dreams and clear intentions can make a positive difference in the world, through imagination, creativity and technology.
We need a new style of leader in business and society to deliver on the promise of the 21st century, an approach based on love for people, grounded in purpose, fuelled by passion and rewarded by profit, tangible and intangible.
A Solopreneur is a person who creates a sustainable business venture where the growth of the business is directly related to the personal growth of the founder of the business: i.e.growing a business from Passion to Profit.
The "old rules" of a market-centric approach to business are no longer valid... because the fundamental idea of what business is all about is changing: a shift from trying to sell something, to creating conversations.
During my first two businesses: a technology consulting practice, and then an internet startup during the tech bubble of the late 1990s, I realized that something did not "click" with the traditional, market-driven and shareholder-value focused approach to business at the expense of one's soul. My personal life and my work life were taking two different paths, one in search of meaning and purpose, and the other grasping at stability and security. It took a major personal crisis for me to realize that I needed to reinvent, for myself, a livelihood that expresses all of me.
"From Passion to Profit" shares what I've learned about a fresh approach to creating a livelihood, one based on building community, igniting conversation, developing one's clarity, commitment, confidence and courage, in order to make a win-win difference in the world.
What our society needs now, more than ever, are individuals equipped with big dreams and the leadership skills to build strong, vibrant communities... the true future of business. The shifts we need to make are clear...
...from quick returns to sustainability
...from shareholder-focused to stakeholder-focused
...from consumers to citizens
...from market to community
...from marketing to conversation
...from "I win at your expense" to "let's win together"
...from finite to infinite
...from obsolescence to renewal
...from jobs to livelihood
...from growth-by-steroids to growth-through-vitality
"From Passion to Profit" is about powering you through whatever is holding you back from creating the future you really want, guiding you to transform your visions, ideas and passions into tangible, powerful and profitable results... results that create an impact... results that mean more happiness and prosperity in your life, results that inspire better relationships, and results that make the world a better place for all.
Yes, it is possible to make money, have fun, and make a difference in the world... without selling your soul!
